How We Control Enamel Fill, Plating and Backing Attachment
The details that make or break a pin are the ones most sellers cannot describe: the enamel fill, the plating finish and the backing attachment. Here is how we control them.
Plating Uniformity
Plating color must be consistent across the whole batch and evenly cover edges and recesses. We control polishing before plating, plating thickness and color matching so shiny, matte and antique finishes read the same from the first piece to the last. Antique finishes are hand-antiqued in recessed details for stronger contrast.
Backing Attachment
The backing is the part that fails first. Butterfly and rubber clutches must grip firmly, magnets must hold through fabric, and safety pins must close cleanly. We lock the attachment position and direction at the mold stage, then test clutch grip, magnet pull and pin closure on a sample pull before bulk production so the backing does not twist, loosen or fall off in use.
Enamel Fill Accuracy
Soft and hard enamel pins fail when color bleeds across metal lines, or when the fill is uneven and looks cheap in a tray. We control recess depth and metal line thickness at the mold stage, then fill each color area to the approved Pantone reference. Hard enamel is polished flat so the metal and color sit level; soft enamel keeps a controlled recess without overflow.
